Born in a German DP camp in 1947 to Polish Holocaust survivors who lost the majority of their family in the Holocaust, Avi grew up in Israel and is a veteran of the Israeli Navy. He graduated in 1974 from CSU with an Electrical Engineering degree. Avi retired from his 35-year career in engineering in 2009. Avi and his wife Lynn have two married daughters and five grandchildren.
Avi has been involved with Holocaust Survivors in Cleveland since 1980. He has served as President of Second Generation Kol Israel, Vice President and board member of Kol Israel Foundation and is currently involved in Holocaust Commemorations and Education. He works diligently to make the annual Yom Hashoa Commemoration and Memorial Service at Zion cemetery a city-wide meaningful and successful experience. Avi is also docent at the Face to Face program.
