July is National Anti-Boredom Month
May we suggest a few things you can do to alleviate the blahs?
There really is a month for everything! This month is National Anti-Boredom Month, which seems especially relevant during a pandemic that is forcing many of us to stay close to home. If you are like us, you are probably growing weary of baking bread, weeding the flower beds, playing online games, cleaning the pantry, and attending yet another Zoom meeting.
Before resigning yourself to another day of watching mindless TV, consider embracing some of these activities designed to add meaning—and maybe even a little excitement—to your life:
-
Go on a socially distanced walk in the park with a friend. Companionship and closer proximity to nature are sure to brighten your mood.
-
If you live with a partner, have date night at home. Take the time to dress up (good-bye yoga pants!) and set a pretty table. Cook a meal together or order takeout from your favorite neighborhood spot. Light a candle, uncork a bottle of wine, and enjoy each other’s company.
-
Make a mess. Summer is the perfect time to try your hand at painting furniture, planting a garden, tie-dying T-shirts, or making s’mores over an open fire.
-
Turn on the lawn sprinkler and run through it like you did when you were a kid.
-
Jump in puddles on rainy days.
-
Become active in a cause that is meaningful to you. Many organizations offer opportunities for engagement that do not involve in-person contact.
