Kol Israel Foundation invites you to test your knowledge and compete for awesome prizes at Latke Luck: Are YOU Smarter Than a Potato Grater? The virtual fun(d)raiser, emceed by Beachwood native and nationally known comic Seth Buchwald, hits Zoom screens on Wednesday, December 16, at 7 p.m. KIF volunteers, wearing masks to meet health-safety protocols, will deliver tribute books and individually wrapped Chanukah treats to participants prior to the event.
During the program, which coincides with the seventh night of Chanukah, five community members will be feted for their outstanding support of KIF’s mission of Remembrance, Resilience, and Holocaust Education.
FOR THE ‘GRATER’ GOOD
Latke Luck proceeds will support KIF’s Holocaust education program, which is being adapted to reach students virtually during the pandemic.
Through the years, thousands of Northeast Ohio middle- and high-school students have experienced KIF’s respected Holocaust education program. Pre-pandemic, the program included a field trip to our home in Beachwood, where pupils and their teachers received a brief introduction to Judaism, an overview of the Holocaust, a docent-led museum tour, small-group discussions, and a presentation by a Survivor or his/her adult descendant.
The current public-health crisis has curtailed the in-person experience, but it has not lessened our resolve to leverage the lessons of the Holocaust to improve our modern and future society. Because of an uptick in anti-Semitism and hate crimes, KIF is more committed than ever to share our message with the next generation. Adapting our Holocaust education program to a virtual format allows us to reach students wherever they may learn—whether in a traditional classroom or at their kitchen table. KIF works with teachers to tailor each program to meet unique curricular needs.
BUT IT TAKES A LITTLE GELT
Harnessing technology to present Holocaust education comes with a price tag that, frankly, no one could have predicted a year ago. Ad deadline for the Latke Luck tribute book has passed, but it is not too late to show your support through a Latke Luck sponsorship, ticket purchase, or donation. Please visit www.kifcle.org/latkeluck to demonstrate you believe in our mission as much as we do.
WITH A FEW CHUCKLES ALONG THE WAY
Attendees will enjoy competing for prizes in a fast-paced, interactive game show via their cell phones. (Easy-to-follow instructions will be distributed prior to the event.) They will also be treated to comedy from emcee Seth Buchwald, whose quirky (and highly identifiable!) reminiscences of growing up in a Survivor family in Beachwood will have you rolling on the floor!
ABOUT THOSE QUESTIONS
So … let’s find out if YOU are smarter than a potato grater. You ARE if you answered Woody Allen for the first question and $1 for the second one.
